Who hasn’t heard of this ceremony, which has been covered by the media for over 70 years? For 12 consecutive days, Cannes hosts the Film Festival by rewarding the best achievements of the year. The eyes of the whole world are on the famous Croisette. You’ll see the stars climb the 24th steps of the Palais des Festivals. But also a swarm of photographers and fans around the historic red carpet.
The Nice Carnival is one of the biggest in the world. Two unique events mark this festival: the carnival corso and the Battle of Flowers. The Carnival King enters in front of the crowd: the ceremony begins! An incredible show with illuminated floats, enormous heads and gigantic characters takes place over two hours.
Not to mention the Battle of Flowers which consists of a large parade of flowery floats. Costumed actors distribute more than 100,000 flowers to the audience!
Popular and intended for all ages, the Lemon Festival in Menton is a traditional event not to be missed. It celebrates the end of winter, for more than 15 days. In February, thousands of visitors come to admire the procession of floats made from lemons and oranges. Splendid citrus sculptures from the country are on display in the Biovès gardensin the city centre.
At night, the glittering colours of the fruits are mesmerising. The theme changes every year to the delight of visitors.
In the summer, there are many parties organised around fireworks festivals. The greatest master pyrotechnicians come to offer a breathtaking half-hour show under the starry skies of Cannes.
